Three Dutch members of parliament and dozens of school children participated in IFAW's campaign for a European ban on Seal products on 1 April 2008 in The Hague, The Netherlands. The parliamentary members from the liberal, social, and social democratic parties demonstrated their support by climbing up a ladder to place puzzle pieces in the form of European countries on a large billboard map, symbolizing the European countries that currently do not have a ban on seal products. The children cheered and waved European flags in the air as each member took on the brave task of climbing the ladder to the top.

IFAW has led the fight to stop the cruel slaughter of seal pups
since the 1960's, resulting in the import ban of newborn whitecoat
seal pelts in 1985. Today, with offices in 15 countries, IFAW is the
world's leading animal welfare
organization, fighting to save seals both on the ice and through vital
scientific and market research.

I am Dutch, though I live in California.
Holland even has a political Party of the Animals, and I'm proud of that sort of attitude.
Canada should be declared an "uncivilized nation" for killing hundreds of thousands of baby seals every year. Gandhi said that a country's level of civilization should be measured in terms of how it treats its animals. What happens to the seals is simply atrocious, evil, a sin.

Thank you, Holland!
I am Slovene, living in the United States. Both Slovenia and the U.S. have imposed the ban - it's time for the European Union to act!

Thank you to all who participated in IFAW's rally to ban seal products. Your actions are vital to ending the seal hunt and very much appreciated in the U.S.

Its heart-breaking to see the videos of grown men clubbing seals over the head, dragging them along the ice on hooks and skinning them while they are obviously still alive. How can Mr. Hearn and his DFO goons call this a "humane hunt"???!!! I've been involved in trying to end the seal hunt for over 15 years, and to me it looks just as brutal, bloody and unbearable as ever...nothing has changed.
I hope the EU and other countries vote against importing seal products from all countries involved in sealing so that we may never have to see the videos or pictures of mutilated, dying or suffering seals ever again.
Please help stop this insane bloodsport once and for all, not only for ourselves, but also for future generations to come.

Thank you for your opposition to the annual cruelty and barbarism of the seal hunt in Newfoundland. I hope that the EU will eventually support a ban of importing products from this hunt.

And who cares about the market in EU... honestly... Asia and Russia is where the money's at!
You guys think you're so important. Pshaw.

Again Matt, you don't know what you're talking about. If the European market is so insignificant, why is the DFO fighting so hard to keep this from passing?

Is this part of civilization? If so, I prefer to stay in my primitive hole, because the human nature embarrasses me with. We should do the same to these hunters just to let them know how it fells.
I don't have words to describe this... It is just abominable

I AM CANADIAN!!! I AM CIVILIZED!!!
You must remember that this seal hunt is only condoned in Atlantic Canada the least populated provinces in this country.
HOWEVER PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT STOP PROTESTING!! I BEG KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK
Sooner or later the uncivilized portion of Canada will wake up and realize this is not okay. It is not okay to beat a dog, cat, cow, pig or anyother animal for that matter why is it okay to beat a seal like this I just don't understand??

As a tax payer and animal (innocence) lover I am absolutely disgusted that the government is actually making us pay the tab for this mass murder of beautiful defenseless creatures. If man could do such evil to an innocent creature like, then what would he do to his own kind???
These people disgust me who do the killing
MOVE TO A DIFFERENT PROVINCE AND BE REAL MEN (IF U KNOW HOW) AND.....
GET A REAL JOB!!!!!!!!!!LOSERS!

This is absolutely inhumane and seriously sick. I am so humiliated to say I live in a country that lets this happen. The ones that actually club and kill these seals must be insane and in need of serious help. How else could they do this and sleep at night???

This blog is about the seal hunt and only the seal hunt. It is not about factory farming, vegans, other animal species, how smart you think you are, or how stupid you think someone else is. If you need to debate, debate the issue of the seal hunt and not the issue of each other.
If you had (a) post(s) deleted, it was because they contained more than just seal hunt discussion. If you are opposed to IFAW's position, you are free to express your opinions, but if you attack another poster or veer off-topic, your post will be deleted.
Anyone who thinks I've deleted their comment in an attempt to "silence" them is incorrect. Your comment was deleted for a reason I've already listed. Write your comment again, refrain from mocking other participants in the conversation, and your post will remain.
