‘The Harper Seals’ performing in Canada

March 06, 2009

A new band has formed… their aim is to raise awareness of Canada’s commercial seal hunt through their music! Their favourite tunes include ‘Do you really want to hurt me’ and ‘Don’t be Cruel’. The band wants to raise the profile of the issue and encourage their fans to write to Stephen Harpers government about the commercial seal hunt.

The band will be performing in Toronto at Yonge and Dundas Square on Saturday 14th March at 2pm and in Ottawa on Sunday 15th March at 1pm (William Street, in the Byward Market).

Please come and support one of these events if you can! For more information on these events contact us at info-ca@ifaw.org.

Io spero che questo anno il grande massacro delle foche non inizi.
Niente giustifica il massacro delle foche,è soltanto un segno di persone non responsabili ed incivili!

Fellow Neighbors, I truly know we are asking for those who never killed for fun, to allow us the pleasure of enjoying them in their natural Habitat.

The way of the North used every fibre of their being. They gave thanks at every meal. They knew that without seals, their families would starve in the winter months. Their family owed their very lives to the seals. This has not changed for thousands of years. But, because of a few who slaughtered them as "game," it is a question of our very species to interact with the great Seal. This' wrong to the fathers, their fathers, and still their fathers. To respect all living creatures on behalf of their creator -- no more. You, who have seen with your own lives, are being asked not to respect them as beings; but as animals. I honor your past, for the respect you all showed toward all families; even the seals. To all our people we never put the lives of others over another. A proud Nation of service to our own people, and that of the Seal.

Why IFAW IFAW has led the fight to stop the cruel slaughter of seal pups since the 1960s, resulting in the import ban of newborn whitecoat seal pelts in 1983. Today, with offices in 16 countries, IFAW is the world's leading animal welfare organization, fighting to save seals both on the ice and through vital scientific and market research.
